                     Why are you always a Daddy Longlegs,
                             why can't you be a mom?
               Aren't you concerned, or haven't you learned, 
                        that no mommy's the end of the line?

                 They argued which green was the brightest,
                        and we all jumped up and said "me!"
               But they each took a side and couldn't decide, -
                        which one do you think it should be?

Pretty poison

  

                           I wanted to ask this pretty red leaf,
                           What is it that scares you so much?
                       Why should you fear whoever comes near
                             and poison whomever you touch!

No minor designer

 

                           I ask you, what manner of being
                             could dream of a face life this?
              What coder or geek could conceive this physique?
                              Who says no Creator exists?

Floral fantasies

                      We never got picked for a flower show,
                            where those fancy arrangements are shown;
                     we fretted a lot, then decided "why not"?"
                           so we put on a show of our own.

Patient pooch

  

                 They asked me to go for a ride in their boat,
                             the kids were out on a date;
              but they all went somewhere and just left me there,
                             how long can a fellow wait?

Downed dragon

                        I thought when they made me a dragon,
                           with wings,  I could cover the town,
                   I would zoom everywhere, and give folks a scare, -
                          then I found they had needled me down!

Ice bear

 

                            Well glory be! I never did see
                                 an ice-coated polar bear;
                   wherever he's going, it's bound to be snowing,
                            I'm glad it's not me going there!

Inspiration!

 

                           I'm just a new leaf getting started,
                                   but its so inspiring to see
               all those beautiful spires growing higher and higher,
                             and that's what a wee sprout can be!

Danger!

Pity the misguided lady

who tries to wear this pair of shoes;

she'll fall on her face, and end in disgrace,

they'll think she just had too much booze.

Color contest

  

                      When you're looking down at your garden,
                             the colors seem hard to beat;
                   but should you aspire to look a bit higher,
                      don't you think the hills can compete?

Withering

 

                             We all disintegrate slowly,
                             losing bits of us, hit or miss.
                    If I must go through it, I hope I can do it,
                                   as gracefully as this!

Horizons

   

                          I thought when I reached my horizon,
                                 500 stones  (count 'em, each!),
                     I could finally let go, but found, to my woe,
                               horizons can never be reached!

                            So what do I say, go on every day,
                                 until I just drop in my tracks?     
                     Or when I get too old, will some kindly soul
                                 mercifully give me the axe?

Water wall

   

                        You think it takes a professional touch
                                  to picture a great waterfall?
                        Well listen, sweetie, a touch of graffiti
                               can capture it better than all!

Fountain frolics

                           I've a fountain that tickles my fancy,
                               it's quite the "comedienne"
                   it constantly tries to shoot jets to the skies,
                       then laughs when they fall down again!

Dee's day

  

                         There is a nice lady named Dee,
                            who had a most difficult knee,
                       but the doctors all say they'll fix it today,
                           so please send best wishes to Dee!

Magnet?

                           There's something about a pathway,
                                it's magnetic beyond a doubt;
                      it can show you the way, or lead you astray,
                           but you have to go through to find out! 

Scene seen?

    

                         Did I really see this or just dream it?
                            The skies, I can understand,
                  and I always can swoon at a sleepy lagoon,
                        but where did I find silver sand?

Hallelujah

  

                      The roses are bursting in bloom these days,
                             with all of their beauty unfurled;
                       and I wish I could sit on the fence and sing
                           my version of "Joy to the world"!

                           that on our fair street did appear?
                    Is he coming to prey? how long will he stay?

                        I make myself try to look further,
                             when exploring a piece of art,
                   to discover designs, and textures and lines
                         that don't catch my eye at the start.

Collage

   

                     You know they're just pieces of scraps,
                      you know you just ought to sweep it;
          but they do have a charm, and they're doing no harm,
                             so call it collage and keep it!

Imperial puss

                   Some creatures are born to be queen, it seems,
                         they have this panache of their own;
              they're pouty and vain, but they know how to reign,
                           so they find an appropriate throne.

Dream City

                            No matter how often I see it,

                             on photos, or film or TV,

                   it gives me a start that it touches my heart

                                with so much intensity!

Dogged dog

     

                               I may not look very ferocious,
                              but I'm here to protect this home;
                     so don't try to woo me, or koochi-coo-coo me,
                                  I have a heart of stone!

Dinghy's down time

                          I always feel sad for a dinghy,
                                 tied up to a mooring buoy;
                    he just tosses and turns 'til his master returns,                    
                           then at last brings him home with joy.

Barnacle bits

                             I'm fond of these little fellows,
                                they're so intriguingly odd;
                  but it does seem a shame to give them that name,
                                   "cirripedia anthropod".

Ceaseless struggle

  

                     If I were a rock I would wonder,
                         in the ceaseless onslaught of  the sea,
                 when the curtain descends, and time comes to an end,
                               what will be left of me?

Color magic?

 

                                            I have this pink azalea bush,
                                               but it has a purple branch too;
                                               and just look at them, they're on the same stem, -
                                                    how can they change their hue?

Remembrance

                                       It was fifteen years ago to the day,
                                         as the shadows were gathering around,
                                          that the love of my life said goodbye to his life,
                                              and the world came tumbling down!
