The Bush's Story

I was once just a lonely old overgrown bush;
  my mother was gone and I missed her.
When along came a man
                 with clippers in hand, -
and now I have brothers and sisters!

Wooden wedding

When, as a young branch,
                  I encountered the fence,
I thought there would surely be trouble,
But I learned that, to grow,
          I could "go with the flow";
and now we're an intimate couple!

floral courtship

If you were a sweet little flower
  awaiting your first tender kiss,
and a gentleman flower approached you,
could you go for a lover like this?

Maple mother

You think that all leaves should look just the same
when found on a maple tree.
Do all of your children look alike?
 Well, just look at mine and you'll see!

Small stones

My "small stones" are really a challenge.
 it's my rules that are costing me time:
the words have to fit in a rhythm,
and the lines have to end in a rhyme.

First I must capture a "moment,"
  then take a picture as well;
but mostly I have to remember
  that it must have a story to tell!

Tree dance

Most dancers dance with two arms,
 not many dance with three, -
but you use what you are given,
   if you're a dancing tree.

pelican land

Are threesomes serene in pelican land,
 or are they like you and me:
where sooner or later one is chased out
     in a bird-fit of jealousy ?

Bewitched

When I lose myself in those hypnotic eyes
I wonder what truths will unfurl.
Am I being chastened for sins of my youth
Or challenged to rescue the world?

Gussie and I are so proud of our Gus.
It was such an undreamed of surprise!
He was always a bird-brain,
                 you know, but now,
He's won the Gulliver prize!

creative cat

These days we must all be creative.
  make the most of our every resource.
If your bowl isn't' there when you need it,
   you must locate another source.

Cow quandary

Must I jump over the moon tonight?
It's  expected of cows,  I'm told.
But my little red house is so cozy and warm....
....Maybe later, - tonight is too cold!

Pariah

   

                                                   Have you ever felt really stranded, -
                                              you know something's really gone wrong?
                                           The message is clear, "we don't want you here!"
                                               And you know that you just don't belong!
 

Tomorrow...

The things that they think of to tempt us
  are always delayed somehow.
Why is it always "tomorrow",
     why can't it ever be "now"?!

World-watching

Didn't we all once  have that wish,
  to fly away up to the sky,
find a nice seat on the rim of the moon,
  and watch the whole world go by.?

Together!

I watched them floating alone in the pond,
  the little gold leaf and the feather;
then, like seeing a lonely boy and girl,
  I cheered when the two got together!

Inside or out?

Reflections in windows remind me
  of a question that's often inferred,-
When caught in a jam,  how to know who I am,
   the Observer or the Observed?

smiling lessons

If things have gone downhill for you,
  you've not had a laugh in a while;
Don't hang your head down.
             keep looking around.
You'll surely discover a smile!
   

Poodle wisdom

My mistress takes pleasure in gussing me up.
People laugh at me, she thinks its cool.
I should be embarrassed,
                          but poodles are smart
We know she's the one who's the fool

Master piece?

Look at this picture and what do you see,
   a window that's falling apart?
But see what I see, and you'll surely agree,
  That window's a real work of art!

A matter of size

Some times when my britches are getting too big.
  and I'm itching for some kind of prize;
 I head for the first eucalyptus grove
  and bring myself down to size.

Exploring

No matter where you're exploring
   there is always something to find.
I do hope I never stop looking, -
   it would surely shrivel my mind!

On the podium

Is he solemnly blessing his people,
  or proclaiming he's king of the bay;
Or has he a humbler objective,
     just drying his feathers this way?

Maturing

I laugh when I see the spring colors,
 pink shoots that mature into green;
Don't' we all go through the same process,
 pink youth becoming green teen?

Nature's design

I thought variegation just meant
  that a leaf would not look like its mother,
But look and you'll find
              that with nature's design
Not one of them looks like another!

spring?

There's nothing that warms the heart more,
  as winter comes to a close,
than, strolling around your garden,
    you find the first bud on your rose.

Remembrance

We all have our ways of remembrance,
  with statuary or story;
but those with deeper devotion,
  develop new pathways to glory

Crab dreams

Their crab friend was always proclaiming
   he would fly away when he was gone;
But after he died, they were surely surprised
  when his carcass turned into a swan!

Unfair!

How could you,how could you,  how COULD you,
            he howled
   how could you do this to ME!
How would YOU feel if I told you to heel
   and tied YOU  up to a tree!?

Elephants

There's an elephant in the tree, Mama, -
  see his trunk and his eye?
How did he get in the tree, Mama?
If I were an elephant, could I?

transformation

Sometimes a familiar object
   makes you question what  might have been:
Would you know that this fancy dancer
  was once a banana skin?

Beauty

How much can we take of beauty,
   pictures of flowers and such?
Does anyone tire of beauty?
Does anyone say" too much"?
