Sailing circles?

 

                                       I watched them with some confusion,
                                         from my perch above the Sound,
                                            but, trying my best, I still couldn't guess, -
                                              do sailboats play merry-go-round?

    That is just wild....whatever were they doing. The boat inside the circle is "it" or was it in trouble and they were to the rescue? Or, maybe just some sailor's game that the rest of us are not in on?
